About Martin Billeter

Research
• Novel methodologies for the analysis of NMR spectra: optimisation of data collection and processing (e.g. analysis of data with coupled evolution periods), automation of data analysis, high-throughput tools for NMR applications.
• Intercalation studies of ruthenium complexes and short DNA fragments using NMR. Characterisation of the intercalation pathway by 3D structural studies of various intermediate states: initial surface binding, DNA penetration, final intercalated state.
• NMR studies on proteins involved in the innate immune system: defensins, and lysozymes. Structural investigations on the adaptations of the antibacterial effect to different environments: respiratory tract and milk of mammals, eggs of birds, skin of fishes...
• Computational approaches to improve the speed and accuracy of generating 3D models of protein structures from rapidly obtainable (incomplete) data (NMR or other). The goal is to combine a search algorithm (“zipping and assembly”) with a score function relying on group packing propensity and evolutionary information.
