About Johanna Hörberg

 I have a bachelor's and master's degree in organic and pharmaceutical chemistry. Now I'm doing my PhD studies in the group of computational chemistry and theoretical biochemistry, where I also did my master's thesis. I am primarily interested in understanding mechanisms for biological processes.

Supervisor: Dr. Anna Reymer and Prof. Leif Eriksson.


My PhD project focus on deriving mechanistic aspects for the regulation of DNA transcription at a molecular level by means of calculation methods (mainly molecular dynamic simulations). Transcription is regulated by transcription factors – a class of proteins that recognize and bind with high specificity short DNA sequences (so-called response elements) to initiate transcription of a gene. In our group, we try to understand how sequence-specific dynamics of DNA can regulate specific recognition of transcription factors and how protein-DNA dynamics can be linked to gene expression levels.
