Biomedical Photonics

Group photo from Professor inauguraion cermony, May 10 2019.

We use advanced optical microscopy techniques for studies of the penetration, distribution and activation of active compounds in skin and epithelial cells. The goal is to be able to understand the molecular and cellular processes involved in e.g. topical drug delivery, to improve prevention and treatment of skin cancer.

The research projects are highly interdiscplinary and involves collaboration with national and international collaborators, as well as local partners, e.g., Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and Centre for Cellular Imaging at Sahlgrenska Academy.

Two papers published!

We have just published two papers in Journal of Biomedical Optics:

  • James, J., et al., Report on fluorescence lifetime imaging using multiphoton laser scanning microscopy targeting sentinel lymph node diagnostics. J Biomed. Opt. 25: 071204, 2020 (Link)
  • Malak, M., et al., Monitoring calcium-induced epidermal differentiation in vitro using multiphoton microscopy. J. Biomed. Opt. 25: 071205, 2020 (Link)

Congratulations to Jeemol and Monika being first authors!

Thesis Prize

The prize for Best Thesis Award, Faculty of Science 2019, was awarded to Hanna Thomsen from the Biomedical photonics group!

Congratulations to Hanna!
